Several years ago I went to a yard sale where I bought a truly lovely dresser and 2 night stands that were really nice. I got them for a very good price. I've enjoyed the set over the last few years.
Then the other day, a neighbor was moving and came over to tell me that they were going to be getting rid of a desk and would I be interested in it. I told them I was interested and went to look at it. When I was thinking about it, it was going to be a dresser for the girls bedroom since I was able to get them a decent little used computer.
I go over to their home to look at the desk and stood there, totally amazed. This desk was part of the set that I had bought several years ago! Same wood, same details, same drawer pulls. How totally COOL is that?
My girls are still without a desk for their bedroom, but I got the desk that matches the rest of my bedroom set :) I am excited because this seems to be a pattern that is occuring to make my home truly lovely and inviting for me and my babies.
I had been talking with a friend just a few days before this, telling them that I was really looking forward to being able to make my bedroom a true sanctuary for me. Getting this desk, that belongs to my bedroom set, is sort of a sign to me that it is truly time to get started on that and make it happen.
Before I am able to get started on my bedroom though, I am really wanting to work on my livingroom and diningroom first. I am not sure exactly what I want the rooms to look and feel like yet so I am sort of stuck until I come up with a plan. I really want the rooms to feel homey~ warm and comfortable.
In the past I had always wanted something sort of victorian. Yet as I was looking at ideas for my home, I realized that although I like the victorian look, it really isn't what I want in my home. I also know that I don't want country or minimalist. So I went online to get some ideas. My thoughts are leaning towards a "traditional" sort of setting for the livingroom and diningroom. Given the furniture that I have it would lend itself very well to this look.
So this coming week, I am going to be looking at some fabrics and curtains that are in the colours and style that will give that warm family friendly feeling that I am looking for.
Back to my bedroom~
I know exactly what I want in my bedroom. I am really looking forward to being able to make this happen. Because I will be decorating the bedroom for ME, to be my sanctuary, I am going to go with something that is made just for me and my personality, my likes, my comfort. For the last several years, my bedroom has failed to be a sanctuary. I had the sanctuary bedroom for a long time. When my family moved from our home we had been in since my youngest daughters birth to the other house, I lost my sanctuary.
Then each time I would start to make it a sanctuary, my son's father would come back into my life and the bedroom would be the first thing to lose it's feeling of sanctuary. It was not a place to escape life's events, instead it was a place where a lot of negative energy built up. I had read through some old blog entries and saw that this was something I knew even as it was happening but didn't do anything to stop it.
So anyway...
I am going to really try hard to get my livingroom and diningroom done in the next few weeks so that I can get started on my bedroom and have it done the week of my birthday as a special gift to myself.
